Ford Finally Makes a Hybrid Worth Buying
When Ford ceased production of the outdated Taurus a few years ago, they had to scramble to fill the void inthe mid sized car arena. The Fusion has been around since 2006 but it is only now with the new Hybrid power plant making waves that the public has sat-up and taken notice. The Fusion Hybrid was finally revieled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in late 2008.In comparison to competitors, the Ford Fusion Hybrid gets some of the best in-town gas mileage. The Environemetal Protection Agency gives the Fusion a rating of 41 Miles Per Gallon which is much better than the Toyota Camry, and even better than the fuel efficient Civic Hybrid; all this from a medium sized hybrid car.The hybrid electric motor has the ability to power the Fusion up past 45 miles per hour without the help of the gas engine. Already there have been many automotive magazines that have employed this system to achieve much better MPG ratings then the EPA estimates.
Technology in the Fusion allows drivers to learn which style of driving is best for maximizing fuel economy.Ford has made a smart feature built into the gauge cluster called the Smart Gauge.there are 2 hybrid information displays, one on each side of the gauge cluster that give a nice readout. The 1st display tells the power left in the battery packs and the remaining amount of fuel. The 2nd display shows the vehicle tachometer and also tells which mode the Fusion is running in; full electric or hybrid. The third monitor will tell how the battery power is and what the engine output is.The fouth data screen shows which wheels are being powered and accessory power consumption.Knowledge centers in the Fusion have data that consists of Miles Per Gallon, fuel efficiency report, travel chart, and changes in radiator temperatures.Real time Mile Per Gallon information lets the driver know which driving style gains best fuel economy.
Check the nav display to see the cool hybrid Energy Flow stuff.A couple of different things will be displayed like the charge of the car, the various hybrid power systems, the regenerative braking, and the boost.
Pretty much all hybrids are considered Eco friendly but it is the Fusion that goes one step farther by using reclaimed fabric to make the interior.Toyota and Honda have been selling thousands of hybrids per year unchallanged, better late than never with Ford.
